Vol. 363 No. 13

Written Answers. - Donegal Bay Pollution.

77.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for the Environment in view of the serious concern being expressed by local interests about the further pollution of Donegal Bay following the installation of the proposed sewage tanks, if he will consider sanctioning the provision of a proper sewage treatment plant for Donegal town; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Donegal main drainage scheme proposal submitted to my Department by Donegal County Council provides for the preliminary treatment of effluent and its discharge to the deep sea section of Donegal Bay. In addition, the proposal includes for the provision of an interceptor sewer which will eliminate existing outfalls along the shoreline. The scheme is designed to improve the water quality in the area.
