Vol. 363 No. 13

Written Answers. - House Improvement Grants Scheme.

76.

asked the Minister for the Environment if contractors carrying out work under the new house improvement grant scheme must hold a current sub-contractors number in addition to registration for income tax and VAT; if he is aware that his Department are accepting applications from people who are only registered for income tax and VAT; and if these people who have received departmental approval will qualify for grant payment.

It is not necessary for a contractor to hold a sub-contractor's certificate to carry out works under the new house improvement grants scheme, provided that the tax numbers referred to by the Deputy are submitted to the Department as required on the relevant application form. The payment of a grant will be subject to the carrying out of the particular works by the contractor as approved by the Department.
