Vol. 365 No. 1

Written Answers. - Care of Children.

181.

asked the Minister for Health the reason children (details supplied) in County Louth have not been taken into care in view of the serious situation involved, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The North-Eastern Health Board is aware of the two children referred to by the Deputy and their family circumstances. I understand that the Deputy and the board have been in correspondence recently about the case so he is no doubt aware that, although the health board was originally successful in its application to have the children committed to its care, the court subsequently revoked the order, on appeal from the children's mother, and directed that the children be returned to her. The board's social work services continue to remain in contact with the family and the children's progress and well-being are being monitored.
