Vol. 365 No. 14

Private Notice Question. - Appointment of Minister of State: Announcement.

A Cheann Comhairle, I beg leave to announce for the information of the Dáil that, on 1 May 1986, the Government appointed Deputy Jim O'Keeffe, Minister of State at the Department of the Public Service, to be a Minister of State at the Department of Finance also, with responsibility in the area of public expenditure.

The exercise of the responsibilities allocated to the Minister of State will, in accordance with statute and practice, be subject to the general superintendence and control of the Minister for Finance, who will remain fully responsible for all the departmental powers and duties.

I just want to ask a question.

There is another shuffle.

The Taoiseach makes an announcement and I just want to ask a question.

You are well able to handle it.

Thank you, a Cheann Comhairle. Does the Taoiseach really think it makes any difference and has he ever heard the description of moving the deckchairs around on the Titanic?

Evidently, public expenditure makes a difference.

(Interruptions.)

I have called the Order of Business.
