Vol. 366 No. 6

Written Answers - Dublin North-Inner City.

74.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the actions or activities which she proposes to undertake within the next 12 months with regard to improving the employment prospects and quality of life generally of people in the Dublin north-inner city area.

The function of my Department is to meet the social welfare needs of the public and the services provided are mainly of an income maintenance nature and are not differentiated between one area and another.

During 1985 the interim board of the Combat Poverty Organisation recommended a "once-off" payment of £15,000 to a north-inner city group composed of representatives of groups working with deprived young people in the area. In addition seven organisations in the north-inner city area benefited in 1985 under the scheme of grants to voluntary bodies in the social services area.

It is not possible to say at this stage what level of similar support will be provided to the north-inner city area during the next 12 months.
