Vol. 367 No. 9

Written Answers. - Gorey (Wexford) Unemployment.

35.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the very high unemployment rate in Gorey town and area; if he will ensure that special emphasis is given to that area for job creation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Limerick East): I am aware of the unemployment rate in the Gorey area and I can assure the Deputy that the Industrial Development Authority are vigorously promoting the town and surrounding areas for suitable industrial projects. Special emphasis is being given to the Gorey area, and to County Wexford generally, in that, since January 1985, the IDA have accorded priority status to the county in their promotional efforts. In addition, in the south-east region generally, the IDA have intensified their efforts through the establishment of the South-East Small Industries Board. Staff with sole responsibility for promotion of small industry in the region have also been appointed.
