Vol. 368 No. 9

Written Answers. - Newly Registered Nursing Homes.

66.

asked the Minister for Health his Department's policy with regard to grant aid for newly registered nursing homes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The emphasis in health policy is for health or to protect peoples there from the oping community services for the elderly rather than providing subventions in respect of maintenance of patients in private nursing homes. However, a substantial number of patients are receiving subventions from health boards towards the cost of their maintanance in private nursing homes. Private nursing homes which are not approved for subvention purposes may still operate provided they comply with the terms of the Homes for Incapacitated Persons Regulations, 1985.
