Vol. 368 No. 9

Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) Hospital.

65.

asked the Minister for Health when construction work will begin on the building of the Tallaght Hospital; when it will be completed; the facilities that will be provided; the number of patients it will cater for; and the number of people that it will employ.

It is estimated that the construction work on the Tallaght Hospital will begin in 1989. The development is to take place on a phased basis. The first phase which will have about 450 beds is expected to be completed in 1992-93 and will have full diagnostic facilities including radiology, pathology, out-patients department, accident and emergency department, etc.

The hospital will provide the full range of acute general hospital services and ultimately will have approximately 770 beds.

The staff complement of the hospital is yet to be decided. However it could be expected that the hospital would employ in the order of 1,000 staff on completion of the first phase of the development.
