asked the Minister for Labour the present position for employment under the social employment scheme for an unemployed young woman who has been deemed eligible for credits since February 1986 but not eligible for payments because of living at home.

To be eligible to participate in the social employment scheme a person must:
(i) be over 25 years of age,
(ii) be in receipt of unemployment benefit for at least one year or be in receipt of unemployment assistance.
These eligibility criteria were introduced to ensure that the scheme would be as cost effective as possible and would be directed at the long term unemployed over 25 years of age.
