asked the Minister for Labour if, in view of the fact that a social employment scheme to surface dress the main road in Inis Meáin cannot proceed without an additional £4,000 grant for the purchase of bitumen tar, he will allow the Department of the Gaeltacht to make this grant available so that the scheme can proceed.

Under the social employment scheme, Údarás na Gaeltachta have been allocated funds to improve roads on Inis Meáin. A total of £111,384 has been made available to Údarás, £38,584 of which is intended to support the cost of materials and supervision.
These amounts are within the parameters set down for assistance under SES.
Additional funding, for materials necessary to complete a project, is a matter for the project sponsor. As the Deputy will appreciate, it would be inappropriate for me to comment on any application for assistance made to another Department.
