Vol. 372 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ballinasloe (Galway) Remedial Works Scheme.

201.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received an application for an amenity grant scheme for the upgrading of homes in St. Grellans Terrace, Ballinasloe, County Galway; if a provisional grant of £150,000 has been sanctioned; if his Department is now in a position to ensure that the local authority can proceed with the necessary intermediary steps to ensure that this work of refurbishment and modernisation is undertaken; and when he last communicated with the urban district council and the Galway County Council on this matter.

An application has been received from Ballinasloe Urban District Council for financial assistance under the remedial works scheme for local authority dwellings at St. Grellans Terrace I am considering this proposal and I will make a decision in the matter shortly. Following the Government's budgetary decisions I am reviewing the allocations for remedial works notified last February to local authorities by my predecessor and I will communicate with the council in the matter at an early date. The last communication from my Department in regard to their proposal issued to the urban district council on 11 February 1987. Galway County Council are not involved.
