Vol. 372 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dublin School.

14.

asked the Minister for Education the time-scale for the provision of a new school building to replace the pre-fabs at a school (details supplied) in Dublin 1.

My Department's professional officers are working on a sketch scheme which will include costings, for the provision of sufficient permanent accommodation for the school referred to, in replacement of the present prefab classrooms. The proposal is to reconstruct the former permanent buildings on the school site. I am not, however, in a position, at this stage, to give the Deputy a time-scale for the implementation of the proposal. Assuming that the sketch scheme establishes that the required accommodation can be provided at acceptable cost in the manner indicated, the development of the project through its various architectural stages would take some time. It is unlikely, realistically, that provision of a capital allocation for the project would arise before the end of the financial year 1988 or the financial year 1989. My attention has, however, been drawn to conditions at the school in question, and the Deputy may be assured that I shall be keeping developments in this case under close and frequent review.
