asked the Minister for the Environment the number of certificates of approval which were issued by his Department to applicants under the (a) house improvement grants scheme, (b) £2,250 new house grants scheme, (c) £5,000 house surrender grants scheme, (i) on each day from Monday, 23 March to Thursday, 26 March 1987 and on, (ii) the equivalent days of the previous week, (iii) the equivalent days of the previous month, and (iv) the average weekly approvals, under each scheme, issued in each week for the six months ending 9 March last but excluding those periods when the housing grants section was closed for holidays or other reasons.

Approvals for £5,000 surrender grants are issued by local authorities and not by my Department.
An average of 2,100 approvals per week for house improvement grants issued over the six month period ending 9 March 1987.
The £2,250 new house grant scheme was in existence for approximately five months on 9 March 1987, during which period 189 approvals issued or an average of nine per week.
