Vol. 372 No. 7

Written Answers. - Drogheda (Louth) All-Irish School.

252.

asked the Minister for Education when final approval will be given for the building of Scoil Aonghusa, Drogheda, County Louth; the cost of the provision of the school; when approval will be given to go to tender; when building is likely to commence; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has approved in principle the provision of the usual grants towards the cost of providing permanent accommodation for the All-Irish national school, Scoil Aonghusa, Drogheda, County Louth. An outline plan for the project has been prepared and currently my Department is in negotiation with the corporation of Drogheda with a view to acquiring a suitable site. I am not in a position at this stage to give details of the likely cost of providing the school, nor am I in a position to state when approval may be given to go to tender or when the building is likely to commence. I think it fair to advise the Deputy that because of the extent to which my Department's 1987 allocation of capital for the national school building programme has already been committed prior to my assuming office, I am not likely to be in a position to allocate capital to advance this project significantly within the current financial year.
