Vol. 373 No. 4

Written Answers. - Galway City Employment Exchange Office.

61.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in opening the new employment exchange offices in Galway city; the amount of rent already paid; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The delay in opening the new employment exchange in Galway city is mainly due to the fact that the Office of Public Works was requested to provide additional accommodation for the installation of computer facilities at the exchange, at a time when the preparation of contract documents had reached an advanced state. This necessitated the renting of additional space and a complete revision of the plans.

For reasons of confidentiality, it is not the practice of this office to disclose the details of rent paid for premises. However, the terms of the lease of the premises provided for a substantial rent free period to allow for the necessary fitting-out works.

A contract for fitting out the premises in the ground floor of the Hynes building has been placed and I understand work has commenced. The exchange is expected to be ready for opening early next year.
