Vol. 373 No. 12

Written Answers. - Lease Purchase Agreements.

72.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the proposals, if any, he has to bring lease purchase agreements within the terms of, or under similar conditions to the laws relating to hire purchase agreements; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The term "lease purchase agreement" is not recognised or defined in Irish legislation. The nature of a transaction would determine whether or not it is subject to the terms of the Hire Purchase Acts, 1946-60. Normally, a credit transaction related to the provision of goods and where it is envisaged that ownership would change would be regarded as a hire purchase agreement within the terms of the Acts.

73.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the undertakings deemed by him to be a service undertaking under the provision of section 3 (1) of the Industrial Development Act or of earlier provisions to the same effect, the date of the order in each case; the number currently employed in each undertaking and the grants paid so far in each case.

The Industrial Development (Service Industries) Order, 1981 (S.I. No. 321 of 1981), which came into operation on 9 September 1981, specifies the service industries comprehended by section 3 of the Industrial Development Act, 1986.

Details of grants paid by the IDA are contained in the Authority's annual reports copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. Detail of the numbers employed in each undertaking is a matter for the individual undertakings themselves to disclose.
