Vol. 373 No. 12

Written Answers. - Taxi Drivers' Insurance.

74.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been drawn to the refusal by insurance companies to grant cover to taxi owners in Galway city; the action, if any, he will take in the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not aware of any blanket refusal by insurance companies to provide insurance for taxi drivers in Galway city. In recent months two cases involving taxi drivers in Galway city have been brought to the attention of the insurance section of my Department; one has been referred to the declined cases committee for consideration and the other will be when the necessary documentation is received.

All cases of inability to get motor insurance cover can be dealt with under the declined cases agreement and taxi drivers who experience difficulties should contact the insurance section of my Department in the first instance.
