In May 1987, outline plans were submitted to the planning authority, Dublin County Council, and to the Department of Justice for a new Garda district headquarters at Balbriggan. In July both the county council and the Department of Justice requested revisions in the proposed scheme. Revised plans are now being prepared and will be resubmitted to both bodies shortly. Assuming that no further changes are necessary the next stage will be the preparation of contract documents for the invitation of tenders. Progress on this stage will be governed by the finances available generally for Garda building in 1988. Owing to financial constraints it is not possible to be specific as to when a contract will be placed.
