Vol. 374 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates

49.

asked the Minister for Finance if a tax rebate is due to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 for the period 1984-85 and 1985-86; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that a review of the taxpayer's liability for the year 1984-85 was carried out in July, 1985 and an overpayment emerged. A cheque is settlement was issued to the taxpayer at that time.

The inspector of taxes will not be in a position to determine if, or to what extent, the taxpayer is entitled to a refund of tax for 1985-86 until he receives certain outstanding information, which was requested from the taxpayer on 2 October 1987.

asked the Minister for Finance if a person (details supplied) in County Waterford is entitled to a tax rebate; and, if so, when payment will issue.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer's claim for repayment of tax was dealt with by way of reviews of his liabilities for the years 1984-85, 1985-86 and 1986-87. The reviews resulted in a net underpayment. The inspector wrote to the taxpayer on 5 October 1987, and enclosed balancing statements giving full details of the reviews.
