Vol. 374 No. 7

Written Answers. - Redundant Health Staff.

206.

asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the number of staff in each health board, voluntary hospital, and other health agency within his jurisdiction who have been offered voluntary redundancy terms, the number who have accepted such terms; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The application of the package of measures designed to attain the rationalisation of the health service includes career breaks, job sharing and redeployment in addition to voluntary redundancy-early retirement. Application of the redundancy-early retirement elements of the package by individual employing authorities requires my prior approval.

To date 95 staff have accepted the redundancy terms and payments have been made. The employing authorities were: Eastern Health Board, 12; Mid Western Health Board, 19; Western Health Board, 11; Monkstown Hospital, 23; Dr. Steevens-St. James's Hospital, 30.

A further 500 hundred staff are in the process of accepting offers, calculations of the lump sum payments-pensions are in process and payments will be made in due course. The employing authorities concerned are: St. James's-Dr. Steeven's Hospital; North Infirmary Cork; County and City Infirmary Waterford; Royal City of Dublin Hospital (Baggot Street); Hume Street Hospital; South-Eastern Health Board; Southern Health Board; Western Health Board.

When the exact distribution of the redundancies as between the bodies listed above becomes available it will be forwarded to the Deputy.

The question of the application of the package to the Health Education Bureau and the National Social Service Board is under discussion with the staff involved.
