asked the Minister for Health when he will grant statutory registration to the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I do not propose to introduce legislation to provide for formal statutory registration for physiotherapists.
The physiotherapy profession, together with a number of other health professions, was informed last year that a decision had been taken not to introduce legislation of this kind. The decision not to introduce such legislation was taken following a review of the need for statutory registration. The conclusion was that protection of the public from unqualified practitioners could not be guaranteed through such legislation.
