Vol. 374 No. 7

Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) Regional Technical College.

267.

asked the Minister for Education when construction work will begin on the regional technical college, Tallaght, Dublin 24, as recommended by the Higher Education Authority in 1979, in the light of the commitment of the Fianna Fáil election programme that more third level education places would be provided by accelerating the new regional technical colleges and other extensions already in the pipeline and in the light of the recent Comtec report which showed that the youth population in Tallaght will increase by 213 per cent between 1981 and 1996.

As the Deputy will be aware from my speech on the Estimates for 1988 an interdepartmental committee is to be established to examine the provision of third level places, the rationalisation of third level departments and institutions and their funding and that meanwhile certain major building projects, including the proposed Tallaght regional technical college, are being deferred.
