Vol. 374 No. 7

Written Answers. - Temple Street Children's Hospital.

37.

asked the Minister for Health when the Children's Hospital, Temple Street, Dublin 1 applied for assistance to build an extension; the details of the extension and the costs involved; if he intends to give grant approval; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In 1978 the hospital applied for permission to draw up plans for a new out-patients department and accident and emergency department. In 1979 the hospital was informed that a capital grant would be made available towards the cost of extensions to these departments.

The hospital, however, did not proceed with this scheme and instead submitted proposals for the overall development of the hospital to be implemented on a phased basis over a number of years.

In 1982 a project team representative of my Department and the hospital authorities was established to prepare a planning brief for a limited development of the hospital including an outline of the long-term space requirements for the entire hospital.

The planning brief was submitted and approved by my Department in June 1984. A design team was then appointed to prepare a development control plan. In January 1987 my Department approved the preparation of sketch design and cost plans for the out-patients, accident and emergency and pharmacy departments. The scheme is estimated to cost about £3 million.
