asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement regarding the role of Cheeverstown House Limited, Dublin 12 in providing services for the mentally handicapped, indicating the services which are being provided by Cheeverstown House at present (i) on a day-care basis and (ii) on residential basis and the allocation of funds or services provided for Cheeverstown House Limited by the Department of Health in (a) 1985 (b) 1986 and the allocation and/or services provided for Cheeverstown by his Department in 1987.

At present Cheeverstown House provides: (a) Day Care Services for 136 people; (b) Residential Care for ten people. However, agreement has now been reached between Cheeverstown House and the Eastern Health Board on the admission of 50 people with a mental handicap from the board's psychiatric service. The initial intake of residents will take place in the coming weeks.

When fully commissioned the centre will provide 130 residential places and 184 day care places.

In 1985 my Department's allocation to Cheeverstown House was £1.423 million.

In 1986 the allocation made available to Cheeverstown House through the Eastern Health Board was £1.48 million.

The revised 1987 allocation being made available to Cheeverstown House by the Eastern Health Board is £1.686 million.
