As regards EC related travel I travelled to EC destinations, mainly Brussels and Luxembourg, on 16 occasions in connection with meetings of the Council of Ministers or for discussions with Ministers of other member states or with Commissioners of the European Communities. I was accompanied by between one and seven officials from my Department as appropriate to the nature and scope of the meetings; my wife also accompanied me on two occasions. The total cost for all involved was approximately £21,000 which excludes air fares recouped by the EC and travel by official Government transport.
