Vol. 375 No. 6

Written Answers. - Waterford School Transport.

99.

asked the Minister for Education if she will allow the children of a person (details supplied) in County Waterford to avail of the school transport to Rathgormack national school in view of the fact that they only moved house a short distance bringing them nearer to Clonea national school but would like to continue to attend Rathgormack.

The children in question did not have a service to Rathgormack national school under the school transport scheme while they lived in that school area, since there was an insufficient number of eligible pupils in the locality to warrant such a service.

Clonea national school is now their nearest school and since they live only 1.3 miles from this school they are not eligible for transport under the terms of the scheme. It would not be open to me, therefore, to allow them transport to Rathgormack.

asked the Minister for Education if she will extend the school transport service for a person (details supplied) in the County Waterford to Ballymacarbry school in view of the medical circumstances.

The Department do not consider the medical condition of the child in question to be sufficiently serious to warrant the extra State cost that would arise from the extension of the Ballymacarbry national school transport service to his home.
