asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the effect her proposed primary school staffing arrangements will have on the various primary schools in County Kildare; if she will give details of (a) the schools in the County Kildare which are likely to suffer the loss of teachers as a result of the revised staffing arrangements (b) the schools in the County Kildare which will not at all be affected by such an arrangements (c) what the pupil-teacher ratio will be in the schools after the implementation of the proposed changes; if, in her opinion, these changes are likely to have a detrimental effect on the quality of educational services in these schools; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The position of national schools where staffing may be affected under the new schedule of averages applicable from 1 January, 1988, will not be determined until the schools returns of averages for the quarter ended 31 December, 1987, are available in January, 1988. My Department will then communicate with the authorities of these schools in the matter.

asked the Minister for Education the number of teaching staff currently employed in a school (details supplied) in Dublin 1; and if she will give details of any change in staffing levels arising in January 1988.

The total number of teachers in this school at present is 14.

The position of national schools where staffing may be affected under the new schedule of averages applicable from 1 January 1988, will not be determined until the school returns of averages for the quarter ended 31 December 1987, are available in January 1988. My Department will then communicate with the authorities of the school in question in the matter.

The total number of teachers in this school at present is 19.

The position of national schools where staffing may be offered under the new schedule of averages applicable from 1 January 1988 will not be determined until the school returns of averages for the quarter ended 31 December 1987 are available in January 1988. My Department will then communicate with the authorities of the school in question.

As secondary schools are private institutions it would not be appropriate for me to give information on the staffing of a particular school. However, I can say that my Department are not aware of any change in the staffing level of the school concerned arising in January 1988.
