Vol. 376 No. 9

Written Answers. - WHO Working Group Report.

235.

asked the Minister for Health the steps he has taken to ensure the implementation of the recommendation made by the WHO working group report published in 1983 which stated that educational institutions should be developing programmes for training all health care students in quality assurance.

I am familiar with the WHO working group report to which the Deputy refers. I should point out that the report represents only the views of those who participated in the meeting in Barcelona in 1983. It does not represent any decision or policy of the World Health Organisation

In view of the status of the report, I have not taken steps to bring the particular recommendation formally to the attention of the relevant educational institutions. However, there is a growing awareness among the health profession of the desirability of quality assurance programmes in professional practice. I would expect, therefore, that the health professionals involved in education have their own arrangements for keeping abrest of developments on quality assurance.
