asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement in relation to the report from Comhairle na Ospidéal and his Department on laboratory services which has been completed just recently; if he intends as a result to carry out a large scale reorganisation of hospital laboratory services in each health board area in 1986 and 1987.

The report on laboratory services prepared under the auspices of Comhairle na nOspidéal and my Department has not been formally submitted. The draft report forms a good basis from which to formulate a long term plan but circumstances have changed since the report was finalised.
I am proposing therefore to set up a standing committee which will act in an advisory capacity to my Department and which will quickly review the draft report and take into account all of the recent developments. I hope that this work will commence immediately and will be completed by the end of June 1988. The information on costs that the Deputy has requested is not readily available but I will communicate this information to him at a later stage.
