asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he will list the international organisations to which his Department is affiliated, at a cost of £853,000 in 1988; the necessity for this expenditure; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Membership of International Organisations.
My Department will subscribe to the following international organisations in 1988—
Eurocontrol |
European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation |
ICAO |
International Civil Aviation Organisation |
ECAC |
European Civil Aviation Conference |
OCTI |
Central Office for International Transport by Rail |
ECMT |
European Conference of Ministers for Transport |
WMO |
World Meteorological Organisation |
ECMWF |
European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasting |
EUMETSAT |
European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites |
NAOS |
North Atlantic Ocean Stations |
IUGG |
International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics |
ENOS |

I am satisfied that the expenditure involved is necessary because of the resultant benefits which accrue not alone to my Department but to the transport and tourism activities in the country, to the business community and to the general public.
