Vol. 376 No. 9

Written Answers. - Income Tax.

60.

asked the Minister for Finance arising out of his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 53 of 3 December 1987, in which he admits that due to an error on the part of the inspector, demands for income tax for 19871988 were incorrectly issued to a taxpayer, whether he will now ensure that an apology is made to the two elderly pensioners involved, who were considerably distressed by persistent requests for moneys not then due.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the inspector of taxes has written to the taxpayer explaining how the error occurred. The inspector inadvertently failed to include in his letter an apology for the error. He will now remedy this omission which is regretted.
