Vol. 376 No. 9

Written Answers. - Unwanted Timber.

71.

asked the Minister for Finance in relation to the disposal of unwanted timber at Barrettstown Castle, Ballymore Eustace, County Kildare (a) the current arrangement, (b) if tenders were submitted, (c) the successful tenders, (d) the previous arrangements for the disposal of such timber from the estate, and (e) the amount of money which has been realised for the disposal of timber from the estate; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The only trees being disposed of at Barrettstown Castle Estate are (a) dead and decayed trees and (b) trees which are dangerous or are overhanging power lines. A local contractor is carrying out maintenance works at the castle and grounds, and part of the contract requires him to take down and remove a very few trees, to lop off decayed branches from two other trees and to lop off the top of another. There is no objection to the estate workers taking fallen timber for their domestic uses.

For obvious reasons the Commissioners of Public Works do not disclose the confidential details of individual contracts.
