The 1987 sheepmeat marketing year will end on 3 January 1988. The ewe premium for 1987 will not be known until some time later because the amount of the premium depends on market price levels over the whole marketing year. On the basis of market prices up to the end of November, the ewe premium for 1987 is likely to be a little less than £21 per head. I have already arranged for advance payment of £11 per ewe to sheep producers in disadvantaged areas in respect of 1987.
