Vol. 377 No. 1

Written Answers. - Transport Tontine Society.

185.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement regarding the Transport Tontine Society of Gardiner Row, Dublin 1 which went out of business in December 1984 with loss of funds to its members; and the steps, if any, which are being taken to recover the funds of the society for its members.

The Transport Employees Tontine and Benefit Society was registered under the Friendly Societies Act, 1896. The Registrar of Friendly Societies appointed two inspectors in December 1984 to examine and report on the affairs of the society. In June 1985 the High Court appointed a liquidator to the society. I understand that both the inspection and the liquidation are continuing but I have no function in relation to either process or the steps which might be taken arising out of them, which will determine the final prospects for members.
