asked the Minister for Education (a) the average number of teaching staff employed during 1987 (b) the final 1987 expenditure on pay of teaching staff (c) the savings in pay of teaching staff compared to the original 1987 Estimates (d) the planned average number of teaching staff in 1988 on which the 1988 Estimates are based in respect of each of the Votes for primary education, secondary schools, community and comprehensive schools, vocational schools, special schools and higher education.

øPending receipt from the vocational education committees of their "Annual Financial and other Statements" for 1987 the estimated figure for expenditure on vocational teachers' pay in 1987 is £95.354 million.

øøThe savings in pay of vocational teaching staff compared to the 1987 Estimates provision is £1.77 million.

The material requested by the Deputy is not yet available in respect of the VEC third level colleges, universities and other third level institutions.
