Vol. 377 No. 1

Written Answers. - Public Services Fees.

38.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he proposes to increase the fees payable for services to industry and the public generally, in relation to services provided by his Department, and State or semi-State bodies; the total costs of such services; and the total fees income.

While I have no proposals at present to increase the fees payable for services provided to industry and the public, the level of such fees, and the desirability of extending fees to other services, are kept continually under review.

With regard to establishing the cost of fee generating services, the Deputy will appreciate the difficulty in apportioning costs between fee generating services and the other services which are provided. However, an estimate of the cost of providing fee generating services in 1986 has been calculated at £23.4 million, while in the same year the total fee income amounted to £18.671 million.
