My response to the parliamentary question answer on 26 November 1987 on this issue was brought immediately to the attention of the officials of my Department who then had responsibility for the administration of the social employment scheme.
Smallholders in receipt of unemployment assistance are technically eligible for employment on the social employment scheme. As I indicated in my reply on 26 November, priority is, however, given to persons from the Jobsearch programme.
