asked the Minister for Education if she will indicate the number of voluntary redundancies she will grant in the following education sectors: (a) the voluntary secondary sector and (b) the VEC sector.

With regard to (a) the voluntary secondary sector, I am not yet in a position to indicate the number of teachers to whom voluntary redundancy will be granted as the closing date for receipt of applications is 29 February, 1988.
With regard to (b) the VEC sector, the position is that details of a voluntary redundancy scheme for second level vocational teachers will be issued to the VECs today. Until such time as all applications have been received it will not be possible to indicate the number of vocational teachers to whom voluntary redundancy will be granted.
