asked the Minister for Health the loss to the Exchequer if the Commission on Taxation recommendation that health contributions be abolished, were implemented.

The amount collected in health contributions and approporiated to my Department in 1987 was £101.8 million.
The Commission on Taxation did not recommend the abolition of health contributions but rather proposed that they be absorbed into general taxation. Consequently their abolition would not result in any loss to the Exchequer.
