To date the telephone extensions from Garda stations to official Garda living accommodation have been disconnected at 382 centres. The facility is being withdrawn from a further 43 centres.
It is not as yet possible to say what the actual total financial savings will be as it is expected that the greatest savings will come from a drop in call charges. However, I indicated in reply to a Parliamentary Question on 23 October 1987 that the savings on rental charges were expected to be of the order of £21,000 p.a. and I am not in a position to give any more accurate figure at this stage.
