Vol. 378 No. 3

Written Answers. - Ballymun (Dublin) Waste Incinerator.

89.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his Department have carried out, or propose to carry out an environmental impact analysis of the Dublin Corporation proposal for a waste incinerator to be located in Ballymun, Dublin 11; if the Department have carried out any study of the economics of this proposal to see if it can be justified on economic grounds; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Responsibility for all aspects of waste management in their area, including consideration of the economic and environmental implications of waste disposal options, is a matter for Dublin Corporation. I understand that the corporation have not taken a final decision to proceed with the provision of a waste incinerator at Ballymun but that an environmental impact assessment would be carried out in advance of a decision to do so. In relation to air emissions and the disposal of wastes from an incinerator, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Questions Nos. 180 and 181 of 16 February 1988.
