Vol. 378 No. 6

Written Answers. - Differential Rent Scheme.

217.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will consider amending the differential rent scheme so that net pay i.e. gross pay less PAYE and PRSI plus where applicable family income supplement can be used as the basis for calculating the differential rent scheme; if he will give any estimate of the cost of such a change; is so, if he will give details of the way in which the costing was arrived at; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Local authorities are responsible for making and amending rent schemes in respect of their rented dwellings and decisions on the classes of income to be taken into account in rent assessments is a matter for the authorities. Information sought by the Deputy in regard to costs is not available in the Department.
