asked the Minister for Finance in respect of County Wexford, the total amount outstanding from (a) farmers and (b) self-employed, in respect of the youth employment levy and health contributions at the latest date for which figures are available; and in respect of the year 1986 to 1987 the amount paid by PAYE workers in respect of (i) income tax, (ii) youth employment levy and (iii) health contributions.

Health contributions and youth employment levy payable by full-time farmers for years up to and including 1983-84 are collectible by health boards. The health contributions and youth employment levy payable by farmers with other trades or professions for those years are collectible by the Revenue Commissioners. For years subsequent to 1983-84 the Revenue is responsible for the collection of health contributions and levies from all farmers. The Revenue are responsible for collecting these charges from the other self-employed for all relevant years.

Table A below gives the information requested on amounts outstanding to the Revenue Commissioners up to the end of 1987 from farmers and other self-employed persons in County Wexford.

These figures are no more than estimates and on the basis of previous experience the amounts will be subject to downward revision on closer examination, on appeal and for various other reasons, and the figures will change accordingly.

Table B below relates to information on amounts outstanding provided by the South Eastern Health Board, as at 11 January 1988, in respect of full time farmers for years up to and including 1983-84.

It is estimated that the amounts collected under the PAYE-PRSI system up to the end of 1987 for the year 1986-87 from employers registered in County Wexford in respect of income tax, youth employment levy and health contributions were £14.57 million, £1.02 million and £0.94 million respectively.
