Vol. 379 No. 1

Written Answers. - Consultants' Common Contract.

43.

asked the Minister for Health if he has satisfied himself that consultants in a hospital (details supplied) in Dublin 7 adhere to the common contract with regard to their treatment of public patients as outlined in his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 188 of 9 February 1988; the mechanism used to monitor the implementation of the conditions of the contract; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The responsibility for ensuring that the conditions of the common contract are adhered to lies with hospital management and the individual consultant concerned.

I am assured that all reasonable steps are taken in the hospital referred to by the Deputy to ensure that the conditions of the contract are observed by consultants in their treatment of public patients.
