The departmental review on mental handicap is still under way. Without prejudice to the conclusion of this review, discussions are taking place in many areas about the development of more appropriate services for people with a mental handicap. Through the redeployment of resources various measures are being adopted to provide more appropriate settings for mentally handicapped people such as community based residences.
