asked the Minister for Finance if an environmental impact assessment will take place in relation to the usage of a privately owned water bus on Lough Leane, Killarney, County Kerry.
Written Answers. - Killarney Lake Water Bus.
The following studies were carried out in 1987 in order to assess the possible environmental impact of a water bus on Lough Leane in Killarney National Park.
(a) An assessment of environmental noise impact of the operation of the water bus on Killarney Lakes was prepared by the Institute of Industrial Research and Standards; (b) An investigation of possible disturbance of sediments by boats in Lough Leane, County Kerry was prepared by the Institute of Industrial Research and Standards; (c) A study of visitors to Ross Island, Killarney National Park was prepared by Mr. M. Loftus, Dip. Env. Mgt., in consultation with the Dublin Institute of Technology; (d) A study of wash along the shoreline of Lough Leane was carried out by staff of Killarney National Park.
Copies of the full reports were circulated to all local interest groups. The operation of boats on Lough Leane will continue to be monitored by the National Park staff.
