Vol. 380 No. 10

Written Answers. - Dublin Traffic School.

65.

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the two Garda instructors are to be withdrawn from the traffic school, Clontarf, Dublin 3, from 1 June 1988; that the traffic school for all practical purposes will cease to function as a result; that this will be a major loss, as some 26,000 children use the school each year; that there is no saving involved as the gardaí will be employed elsewhere; if he can assist in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Responsibility for the operation of the Traffic School at Clontarf is a matter for Dublin Corporation. I understand, however, that its future operation is at present in some doubt. The Garda authorities assure me, however, that they would be willing to continue to co-operate with the local authority in the operation of the school, even on a reduced basis, should this be deemed feasible.
