In the context of the White Paper on Industrial Policy published in 1984 the Government decided that Shannon Free Airport Development Company Limited should conduct a pilot project on the development of the food processing sector.
Two reports on SFADCo's pilot food role were submitted to my predecessors, one on 14 January 1986 and another on 16 May 1986. Both reports dealt with activity undertaken by SFADCo in respect of the pilot food role.
In mid-1987 responsibility for the development of the food industry was transferred from my Department to the Department of Agriculture and Food. National policy in respect of the food sector is now the responsibility of the Minister for Agriculture and Food.
