Vol. 382 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dublin School for the Deaf Staffing.

160.

asked the Minister for Education if an allocation for staffing has been made for the new units in St. Joseph's School for the Deaf, Dublin 7, due to open in September 1988; and if she will give details of the allocation.

The new educational facilities provided at St. Joseph's School for Hearing Impaired Boys, Cabra, Dublin 7 have been in use since January 1988. The teaching staff of the school is determined by the numbers of pupils and the provision of the new facilities does not affect the number of teachers warranted.

On the basis of the enrolments a staff of a principal and 41 assistant teachers is justified for the 1988-1989 school year. The actual number serving is more than this.

I, and my Department, have been in contact with the school authorities recently with a view to ensuring that any difficulties arising in the school are resolved as soon as possible.
