Vol. 382 No. 5

Written Answers. - Visit of Soviet Envoy.

33.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if, in relation to the recent visit by Ambassador Grinievski, the question of Austria's proposed application for membership of the EC was raised; if the Irish Government raised specifically with the Soviet Envoy the compatibility of Ireland's neutral status with its membership of the European Community; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Ambassador Grinievski, a special representative of the Government of the Soviet Union, visited Ireland on 13 June to brief the Government on the recent meeting in Moscow between General Secretary Gorbachev and President Reagan and on developments in Soviet-US relations generally. Our discussions with him were limited to these topics and included neither of the points mentioned in the question.
